A Lesson Learned

Today I learned a valuable lesson.  Though I pride myself on the diligent service I provide to my clients, good ole genuine, human connection could be where I fall short.

Sometimes I get stuck behind the work - deadlines, to do lists, schedules, etc.  I meet client expectations - I deliver incredible work, I never miss a deadline.  Im thorough and accurate.  My i's are dotted and my t's are crossed.  Clients can depend on me.  But sometimes I forget that my clients are people... and that their expectation isn't for us to be a "factory" for their work.  There is an art to developing long standing client relations.  It's a balance between delivering quality work and ACTUALLY making and nurturing a personal connection.

We've all been challenged with interacting with clients that we may not personally mesh with - we do what we need to do to keep the account moving along.  But today I learned that by pushing the work aside and viewing my client as just another human being could've been the answer all along.  Today I learned that casual conversation and a cup of coffee could make a world of difference.
